Athena Lee Bradley, NERC
Athena Lee Bradley is the Projects Manager for the Northeast Recycling Council, Inc. and has more 25 years of experience in materials management, working in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors. She has worked on a range of reuse projects, including establishing reuse sheds, a “teacher supply depot,” and reuse events.
Greg Smith, Needham
Greg Smith has worked in the solid waste industry for approximately 12 years. Receiving his Masters Degree in Urban Planning from the University of Rhode Island in 1993, he went on to a number of public and private positions that exposed him to both the operational and regulatory sides of solid waste management.
As Barnstable County’s Solid Waste Manager,Greg was responsible for assisting a number of on-Cape and off-Cape communities in the renegotiation of their existing SEMASS Covanta long term contacts. He also sat on the DEP’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee from 2004-2007. From 2013-2014 he was the Town of Plymouth’s Solid Waste Manager. Most recently, Greg has been hired by the Town of Needham’s Department of Public Works as the Superintendent of Solid Waste Operations. In this capacity, Greg is responsible for the oversight of 9 municipal staff and all aspects of budgeting, procurement and short and long term planning for the municipalities' 30 year old transfer facility, it’s capped landfill and extensive composting operations. He is also a long time member of SWANA and a former member of the Council of SEMASS Communities.
Susan Waite, City of Northampton
Susan Waite has served part-time as a recycling coordinator for the Town of Amherst for over eight years and for the City of Northampton for a year and a half. Earlier in her career, Susan served worked for a leader in the resale clothing world, Buffalo Exchange. She has also worked in the insurance and high tech industries before coming back to recycling.
